Sometimes I begin with little comps. But most of the time, I do the draft of the future sculpture on the spot.
The purpose is to fill the clay as directly as possible with the energy and the life given by the model.
The trick is to leave the head apart, and to let my hands and my whole body transfer what it fells in front of the real living person.
There, I meet the moving models, very carefully chosen for their specific qualities.
First, I need sandstone clay and some basic tools. I take them to the place where I will find the living models, most of the time at Saint Egrève, near Grenoble (Isère).
